So this right here is why you don't blind buy Elvis movies. I saw that IHATWF had a Blu Ray version on Amazon and I figured it was can't miss. It fell within the time frame of my favorite Elvis film Viva Las Vegas, it was directed by Norman Taurog who directed 2 of my other faves Blue Hawaii and Spinout, and it was on BLU. The only other film from this era I've found that gave me those sweet technicolor HD pops has been Viva Las Vegas. How could I lose?

It starts off all well and good with Elvis as a mischievious pilot who loves 3 things: singin', cropdustin' and bird doggin' chicks with his buddy Danny. Of…

Elvis sings ten songs in this one, and the best of the bunch "One Broken Heart for Sale" at a trailer park surrounded by old men addicted to gambling. He tries to score with one reluctant girl (Bat Girl Yvonne Craig) by singing her the song "Relax" ("Even concrete cracks", he says, pulling her close), then tries to score with another (Joan O’Brien) by paying child Kurt Russell to kick him in the shin. He gets a ride to the Seattle World's Fair from the great Asian American actor Kam Tong and his daughter, played by Vicky Tiu, who is currently running for Governor of Hawaii 2022. Kam Tong disappears, and Tiu gets taken away by Child Services in their…

"Do you know It Happened at the World's Fair?"

    "What happened?"

    "It."

    "What do you mean, it?"

"Well, I don't know, really. Elvis is an out of work pilot that wanders around the Seattle World's Fair with this little girl that's inexplicably been entrusted to him, and he's shoving popcorn and candy at her constantly, and so she gets sick, and they go to the nurses' station, then Elvis starts creeping on this nurse who clearly doesn't want any part of him, and then enough time passes that he wears her down and she just falls in love with him, I guess. He does play the ukulele. At one point they eat in a revolving restaurant in the Space Needle."

    "That's it?"

"That's pretty much it. Oh -- Kurt Russell kicks Elvis, twice."

"That sounds like the best part."

    "It is."

  • It Happened at the Worlds Fair little boy

When are they going to stop pairing up Elvis with a little girl? It is getting annoying and slightly disturbing.

Gary Lockwood is a sinister fuck.

  • It Happened at the Worlds Fair little boy

The 60's, a time when you would pick up two strangers hitchhiking and let them ride on the back of your truck (no seatbelts!) with your eight year old niece, and then leave her with them at the world's fair!

Elvis and the little girl are undeniably cute together. So is Elvis with teeny Kurt Russell in his film debut, kicking Elvis in the shins.

Nice to see Seattle in the 60's, and the story deviates slightly from the usual Elvis movie formula.

    Character: Airplane Pilot / Babysitter

Another 60s effort, another weird attempt at hawking Elvis to the Asian market

Elvis gives a little kid (played by Kurt Russell) a quarter to kick him in the leg so he can fuck a nurse. Riveting stuff

  • It Happened at the Worlds Fair little boy

As far as american movies from the early 60's go, this is a prime example. With Elvis Presley as the protagonist, he is a globetrotting heart robber with the voice of an angel. The plot is pretty ridiculous, throwing in some kids for that cute factor, even a young Kurt Russell appears in his film debut, but they just feel like they are too extra to the film. The real star is the music, were it not for the occasional musical sequences, the film wouldn't be as charming nor good.

Who was the little girl in It Happened at the World's Fair?

Child actress Vicky Tiu played Sue-Lin, the little girl Mike befriends and takes care of in the film. This was Vicky's only movie role; as an adult, she became the first lady of Hawaii while her husband, Ben Cayetano, was the state's governor.

What happens at the World's Fair?

A world's fair, also known as a universal exhibition or an expo, is a large international exhibition designed to showcase the achievements of nations. These exhibitions vary in character and are held in different parts of the world at a specific site for a period of time, typically between three and six months.

What Elvis movie was Kurt Russell in as a kid?

Russell himself already had an interesting Elvis connection, having kicked the real-life Elvis on-screen as a 10-year-old boy in his screen debut, It Happened at the World's Fair (1963). The actor would pay tribute to the role and man in Forrest Gump (1994), when he voiced a young Elvis in a cameo.

How old was Elvis when he made it at the World's Fair?

Kurt was 11 years old, and Elvis was 27 during It Happened at the World's Fair. Years later in 1979, Kurt would play Elvis in a movie called Elvis.
