Sheetz is a restaurant, convenience store and gas station chain that has had a place in the nation’s hearts for over 60 years. Their slogan is “Fresh Food Made To Order,” and their specialty M.T.O (made to order) brand covers a wide selection of breakfasts, lunches, dinners, snacks and drinks.

The company’s M.T.O philosophy is simple; fresh food prepared as and when you want it, meaning no stale sandwiches that have been on display for a week. Sheetz are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and with such a huge selection, they have something for everyone. 

History

It was in 1952, in Altoona, Pennsylvania that Bob Sheetz purchased one of his father’s five dairy stores and the Sheetz chronicle began.  Over the first 11 years, Sheetz created an excellent reputation for fresh, tasty, ‘made to order’ food.

In 1963, Bob, who also employed his brother Steve to help run the business, opened the second location. This was the first expansion of many and by 1972 the company had grown to 14 stores. The initial locations focused solely on the convenience store and restaurant aspect of the business, but in 1973 they expanded this to include self service gasoline and gas pumps.

Sheetz is, and always has been, a family run affair. Even when Bob retired, it continued to run with close involvement from the Sheetz family. The business has no franchises and all of the locations are company run and operated. This ‘keep it in the family’ attitude is something that has helped the business to maintain the high quality of its products over the years.

Today, there are over 400 stores in 6 different states and the company has made a name for itself as a firm family favorite.

They offer meals for every whim and for any time of the day: breakfast sandwiches, wrapz, nachoz, burritos, burgerz, pizza, paninis, hot dogs, french fries, chicken stripz and salads, to name a few. Their ‘Shweetz Bakery’ also offers a selection of scrumptious treats, including: donuts, cinnamon rolls and fritters. Plus with their range of soft drinks, specialty coffees and signature cola fountains, you won’t go thirsty. If you’re looking at the menu and wondering what to order, the chilli cheese fries, meatball sub or grande breakfast burrito are all popular choices. Alternatively, try their famous mac’n’cheese, you won’t be disappointed.

Sheetz has frequently been voted as one of the top 5 places to work, and the members of staff are helpful, friendly and professional. Additionally, their online ordering system makes ‘convenient’ even more so. Before you arrive, order what you want online and customize the order to your exact requirements. It’s then cooked fresh and is ready for you to collect when you get there. To top this all off, Sheetz is particularly affordable and you can get a full meal for under $5. Subs and sandwiches range from $2 to $7.99, for sides it’ll be as little as $1.29 and their pizzas are equally reasonable, from $4 to $8.
